Now let's dive deep into the product research tactics.
This article focuses on product ideas and how to discover them effectively. Specifically, it presents a recent approach from 2017 that can be used to find product ideas. The article explores three prominent websites widely utilized by major corporations to identify potential products and subsequently sell them in the market. By adopting this method, you will no longer struggle with understanding customer preferences and determining what to sell. You will consistently be aware of the top-selling products in your market, current demand trends, and have a clear understanding of what to offer your potential customers to encourage purchases. Think of it as having a crystal ball that predicts the next best-selling product in the market. While this claim may seem bold, we will provide practical insights in this article to support it.
So, grab a pen and paper or open a document on your computer because you'll need it to jot down your product ideas. By the time you finish reading this article, you will have a list of at least 20 high-demand product ideas that you can start selling immediately. Let's begin by discussing...
Amazon.com subcategories.
To begin your product inspiration journey, Amazon is an excellent starting point, especially for beginners. Additionally, we will explore two other websites where you can search for new product ideas. The process involves navigating Amazon's category architecture by going two levels deep. As you browse through various products, make note of the ones that catch your interest. Feel free to explore even further, up to three or four levels deep, to truly grasp the concept. It's important not to limit yourself; instead, focus on ideas that resonate with you. Look for products that are reasonably priced, uncomplicated, and not overly large. Don't worry about the specific type of product – the goal is to let your creativity flow and add anything that excites you to your list.
Simultaneously, follow the instructions we discussed in the previous articles regarding the product selection guide, which will help you grasp the concept effectively. Consider this process as a form of product brainstorming. For this, you'll need two things: a prepared spreadsheet, as mentioned earlier. Personally, I prefer using Google Sheets due to its hosting capabilities and compatibility with my Google account.
However, feel free to use Microsoft Excel, Apple Pages, or any other spreadsheet software you prefer. The layout doesn't matter as long as you can list your product ideas vertically. Aim to gather 20 to 100 product ideas on your list. Let me demonstrate how you can extract product ideas from Amazon, and later, I'll introduce you to other sources for finding ideas. One of my preferred methods for deriving product ideas from Amazon is to use Google and search for "Amazon best sellers."
What's going to happen is that it is going to pop up the Amazon best seller list. You are looking for 'amazon.com/best-sellers/zgbs', so you just click there and from here you can see all of the best sellers in all departments.
Here is the place where you want to go two categories deep because remember - you do not want to be into the top categories of Amazon. Because there are already many people that are selling those products and the competition is huge – which you want to avoid. So I'm going to go into beauty category that is a top category.
Also, so within beauty lets go for example into hair cut subcategory.
That is the second category, and now you can start scanning for products, and you can even go into the third category underneath hair care. If you start to search for products, you can start to see kind of interesting and useful products, for example, this one.
This product fulfills all the criteria that we already discussed in the previous articles, so I would drop this product on my list. Do you realize where are we going and the power of this method, and this is just the beginning. So as you continue scrolling you can see a lot of best-selling products that are perfect for you to start selling right now.
Let us take this one also:
It is detangling hair brush that looks pretty good, and it is funny because I have friends that bought one of these recently because they have long curly hair, so I know from my experience I know that these things are profitable and I will throw that on my list. Also, after choosing some product from this category, you want to go back up to main bestseller departments and then, for example, try the sports and outdoors bestseller department. And within the sports and outdoors let’s go for example go into the sports and fitness subcategory.
Now I can start looking at best sellers and maybe you can just jump down and look somewhere at the top 100. So you can see a lot of interesting examples there, for instance, this one:
This looks interesting, and it is a Yoga Mat, which might catch the attention of some yoga, fitness or workout people, and that looks profitable, and you can put on your list. You can also see this knee compressor sleeve for example.
Upon examining these products, you'll notice that none of them are outdated. Everything you see represents the current best-selling items. It's important to emphasize that there's no need to limit yourself. I encourage you to explore and select products that resonate with you. Within the sports and fitness category, you'll find numerous other subcategories to explore. For instance, you can delve into the golf subcategory, where you'll discover a variety of trending items, such as the Windproof umbrella.
That's an intriguing product idea, and it appears that there are a few of them among the top-sellers. Take your time to browse through various categories and subcategories, focusing on the top-ranked products. Remember, you don't need to conduct any in-depth analysis at this stage. Your goal is to find products that excite you and capture your attention. The reason I recommend exploring the best sellers is that these products are currently in high demand.
Feel free to delve a few layers deep, conduct additional searches, and discover the perfect product for you. Pay attention when you start seeing multiple instances of the same type of product appearing on the best sellers list, as it indicates high profitability and significant customer interest. Include such products in your list as well. While you could spend days researching using this approach, it won't take that long to gather 20 to 100 ideas from Amazon alone. Once you've completed this step, return to your spreadsheet and enter the ideas you've collected. The aim is to have a substantial number of ideas so that you can easily segment and choose two or three products to start with, while saving the others for later.
Now, it's essential not to limit yourself to Amazon alone, although it provides a sufficient resource. I want you to be aware of the best available sources, giving you the freedom to choose from a variety of options whenever you desire. I'll now introduce you to other places where you can find product ideas. However, before we proceed, ensure that you already have at least 10 to 20 products listed from Amazon.
If you're ready, let's explore three additional sources where you can find inexpensive best-selling products, allowing you to sell them at a higher price and begin generating revenue. Apart from Amazon, what other place can help you discover products to sell? There are two more buyer engines I'd like to introduce you to if you seek inspiration beyond amazon.com.
The first one is:
Watchcount.com.
What you can find here is what's the most popular on eBay, and you can find some phenomenal stuff. You can take a look at the home and garden category for example and take a look at what's selling in the home and garden category on eBay.
Here you can also get great idea for some potential products. And in as you scroll here you can see pretty interesting products and what people are buying right now the most. Let’s look at this product for example:
This FlashLight has killing it, and you can tell that many people are buying it right now, also it is a cheap product to start with and it is guranteeed that is going to be profitable. The system is the same, just run trough the categories and find the products that you find interesting, then put them in your spreadsheet. So what you can do is just go through watchcount.com and look at what are good products that are selling well.
Of course, you can probably see that a product that sells for $300 might not be your first product to start with. Because it is way out of the recommended price range, but it could go on the list for later when you start to make some money. So you can get really really good stuff in watchcount.com. And in the second place for you to look is...
AliExpress.com
And this site probably has more categories than Amazon and when you look at the categories like computer and office for example:
Furthermore, if you explore all the subcategories and their subsequent subcategories in AliExpress, you'll be amazed at the vast range of potential products available for you to sell. Let's revisit the home and garden category as an example. Take a look at the numerous subcategories within home and garden; there are truly a multitude of options to explore!
Let us go to pet products and see what’s there ->
So then let us go under pet products, for example, the Dogs category and see what's there.
We can go even deeper and go to Dog Clothing & Shoes =>
I hope you can see the incredible variety of products you can sell. The possibilities are endless! AliExpress's category architecture is an excellent resource for finding fantastic product ideas. You'll find virtually anything you can think of on AliExpress. These are the three sources I recommend for finding product ideas.
Now, you can proceed to your spreadsheet and begin adding your chosen products. By this point, you likely have a substantial number of product ideas that you can start selling today. Add them to your worksheet and select your top two or three favorite products, saving the rest for later.
The overall goal is to gather 20 to 100 product ideas from Amazon, Watchcount, and AliExpress, and organize them on your list. Remember, don't be too strict or restrictive with yourself. Let the ideas flow and include any good ideas that come to mind on your list. In the next article, we'll delve deeper into product analysis to determine the best products to sell. However, even with the product idea research you've done so far, you can begin selling your products right away and make money without further research.
Many individuals choose their products and start selling based on their intuition. The next article will cater to those who are hesitant and unsure about their product choices. So, go ahead and get started, and please share your results with us. We'd be delighted to hear from you.
